Before you calculate your APS score
This calculator provides an estimate based on the information you enter and the qualification rules available to Matric2Succes. Results are intended for guidance only and do not guarantee admission to any university or course.
What is an APS score?
APS stands for Admission Point Score. Most South African universities convert your National Senior Certificate (NSC) subject percentages into points, then add those points together. A higher APS generally gives you access to more programmes, but it is only one part of the admission process.
What this calculator does not take into account
- Some universities use their own scoring systems instead of the standard APS method.
- Many programmes, such as medicine and engineering have extra requirements like minimum marks in specific subjects.
- Some courses require a National Benchmark Test (NBT), an interview, a portfolio, or an audition.
- Universities may treat Life Orientation differently, and some do not count it towards your APS at all.
- Places are limited, so meeting the minimum requirement does not always mean you will be accepted.
Requirements can change
Admission requirements, APS calculations, and application decisions may differ between institutions and can change from one year to the next. Always confirm the final requirements directly with the university before applying, using its official website or admissions office.
Enter your results accurately
Please enter accurate matric results. For the best estimate, use your final or most recent marks, and make sure each percentage is entered against the correct subject. Your information is used to calculate your results and is not a substitute for official academic advice. If you are unsure about your options, speak to your school career guidance teacher or a university admissions officer.
